MLK Day Celebration 2027

A BIMA PRISM PROGRAM

Honor the leaders, artists, and culture-bearers who led the path towards the justice and unity that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned at our annual MLK Day Celebration!

Kitsap ERACE, Living Arts Cultural Heritage Project, and other local organizations present a day filled with music, performances, and community connection. At the heart of this year’s celebration is a tribute to Pat Wright, the beloved Seattle pastor and founder of the Total Experience Gospel Choir, who spent decades using music to mentor and uplift Black youth across the Pacific Northwest.

This is a celebration of legacy in motion, of naming the history, honoring the ones who carried it forward, and continuing that work together.

All are welcome to reflect, celebrate, and help carry the path forward during this day-long event.

12:30-5 PM | Community Art Project | Add your voice to a community art project honoring the people and legacies who led the path before us.

12:30–2:30 PM | Social Justice thru Art Workshop (registration required, here) | Explore social justice expression through art and movement. Space is limited for this Workshop. Registration is required, here.

12:30–2:15 PM | Social Justice Social | Join friends and advocates in community conversation about honoring those who carried Dr. King’s legacy forward and the work that continues today.

12:45–2:15 PM | Healing Circle | Gather to reflect, connect, and pay homage to the ones whose strength and vision made this moment possible.

2:30–5:00 PM | Community Celebration Program (registration required) | A joyful and meaningful afternoon of music, performances, and art paying tribute to Dr. King’s legacy, including a special homage to Pat Wright, founder of the Total Experience Gospel Choir. Space is limited for this Program. Registration is required.

BIMA’s PRISM programming is where art comes alive, off the walls and onto the stage. From films and concerts to artist talks and community celebrations, PRISM expands what it means to be an art museum through regular, engaging live events on BIMA’s stage, in its galleries, and outside the museum.
