Director’s Desk

Welcome to our Director’s Desk, where you’ll find personal thoughts, reflections, stories, and messages from BIMA’s Executive Director, Andy Maus. Dive in, enjoy, and we’ll see you soon at BIMA!

Welcome to Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA). BIMA is your art museum, and the living room of Bainbridge Island. We thank you for visiting, engaging, and supporting our work. BIMA’s programming takes place in two locations, the Museum (located at 550 Winslow Way East) and our artist residency program called Daisy Lane. Over 100,000 people per year visit the Museum and participate in BIMA’s programs and events.

BIMA is not like many other art museums. Here, we believe:

Art should be accessible to all regardless of economic or other barriers. Because of this, BIMA is general admission free–operating thanks to generosity of all kinds. In addition, we offer bus reimbursements for visiting schools. Donations large and small keep BIMA a model for arts access.

The best art museums are regionally relevant and artist-driven. The Puget Sound region’s artistry, craft, innovation, and creativity across artistic media is like no other place on earth. Let’s celebrate it.

Art museums are active community organizations, not mere repositories. BIMA is one of the most active and dynamic art museums in the region, offering events, classes, camps, festivals, parties, and more.

Visiting a museum is more than seeing paintings and sculptures. BIMA visitors also experience artist books, art markets, craft, jazz and other music, artist talks, cultural events, block parties, camps, creative aging programs, and so much more.

We hope you find joy, meaning, and escape at your art museum. We will see you soon.
