The Ghost and Mrs. Muir – smARTfilms: Stranded Spirits

Set around 1900, a young widow defies convention when she and her young daughter take off to a secluded seaside cottage—a cottage which happens to be the abode of one ghostly sea captain. A woman alone, with very little money and the responsibility of a daughter must find her way in dealing with the fractious spirit while finding her way in life. Starring Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison, and directed by Joseph Mankiewicz, the U.K. Times called it “a film that effortlessly switches between gentle romantic comedy and pathos, melodrama, and fantasy. It’s a beguiling charmer.”
