Featured Film – The Girl Without Hands (2017)

French, fully subtitled | 76 minutes

THE GIRL WITHOUT HANDS is radiant illustrated poetry.  Based upon a lesser-known Brothers Grimm fairy tale, the story boldly unfolds on screen in fluid shapes and hand-painted watercolors by Director/Artist Sebastien Laudenbach.  This adult-oriented fairy tale starts with a distraught miller who sells his daughter to the devil. She eventually escapes, but at a cost of losing her hands.  With magic and cruelty, sublime beauty and tenderness, THE GIRL WITHOUT HANDS is at once timeless and unlike anything you have seen before – a stunning example of animation as a powerful cinematic art form.  “The result is a dazzlingly imaginative movie about survival.” – NY Times
