Featured Film – Sita Sings the Blues (2009)

82 min | Animation, comedy, musical | Unrated | USA | English, no subtitles

Winner – Berlin International Film Festival
Nominated – Independent Spirit Awards

Sita is an Indian goddess separated from her beloved husband Rama. Nina is an animator whose real-life husband moved to India and then divorced her by e-mail. Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both the ancient tragedy and Nina’s modern conundrum in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Indian epic “Ramayana”. Both Roger Ebert and A.O. Scott gave the film 100% critical rating. Ebert called it “astonishingly original” and Scott claimed it “dazzling . . . affecting, surprising and a lot of fun.”
