Featured Film – Jafar Panahi’s Taxi (2015)

82 min | Dramedy | Not rated | Iran | Subtitled

Winner – Berlin International Film Festival
Nominated – Cesar Award

Jafar Panahi is an Iranian film director, screenwriter & film editor who has played a large part in the Iranian New Wave Film Movement. He achieved international recognition with this feature film THE WHITE BALLOON (1995) and followed with three more critically acclaimed films until he was banned by the Iranian government from making movies for 20 years. JAFAR PANAHIs TAXI is the third film hes made while living under this ban. The premise is simple: Jafar drives a cab through the streets of Tehran with a camera on the dash, filming conversations with his odd assortment of passengers. We witness amusing and profound conversations with biting social commentary on black market DVDs, crime, the plight of women, artistic freedom and public executions. A spirited slice of Iranian society by a courageous and creative director.
