Featured Film – Kusama: Infinity

2018 | 76 minutes

Yayoi Kusama overcame countless odds to bring her radical artistic vision to the world stage. For decades, her work pushed boundaries that alienated her from her peers and those in power in the art world. She was an underdog with so much stacked against her – the trauma of growing up in Japan in WWII, life in a dysfunctional family that actively discouraged her creative ambitions, sexism & racism in the art establishment, mental illness with its stigma of shame. Her legacy of artwork spans the disciplines of painting, sculpture, installation art, performance art, poetry and novels. And as this movie shows, its the art itself – dazzling, overwhelming, mesmerizing and playful – that proves shes had the goods all along.
