Join us for our March Trunk Show featuring artist Debra Gurtler's colorful scarves and intricately beaded necklaces.
Debra Gurtler has a lifelong passion for creating with color. She creates vibrant, colorful pieces in multiple mediums, including rich and comfortable scarves made of silk and Merino wool, and jewelry pieces that combine her lampwork beads and Kumihimo beaded cords made in her Pacific NW studio. Debra makes all parts of her jewelry--the cord and the pendant--and will be giving a demonstration of her technique of making the Kumihimo cords during her Trunk Show!
Glass bead making allows Debra to play with color and shape as she manipulates and moves molten glass and gets wonderful reactions between color and silver. Each bead is formed over a torch and annealed in a kiln. Kumihimo is the traditional Japanese form of making braids on a Madurai (Japanese wooden loom). Each Kumihimo beaded rope is comprised of hundreds of small beads (Japanese or Czech) dropped one by one from eight threads to weave a beaded rope specifically for a particular lampwork glass focal bead. Each jewelry piece is carefully hand-made, one-of-a-kind, and created to be worn with delight.
