Heikki Seppa: Master Metalsmith

Garden Gallery
February 28 - February 07, 2016

This exhibition features over thirty works by master metalsmith Heikki Seppa. Originally from Finland, Seppa spent his final years on Bainbridge Island and passed away in 2010. Since its inception, BIMA has been collaborating with Seppa's estate to secure a major legacy collection. We couldn't be more excited to share this amazing gift with our community!

About the artist

Heikki Seppa (1927–2010) was a Finnish-American master metalsmith, educator, and author. Born in Sakkijarvi, Finland, Seppa studied at the Goldsmiths School of Helsinki and Center School for Industrial Arts. After reaching master status, he continued his studies in Denmark under Georg Jensen. In 1950, he immigrated to Canada and later moved to Bloomfield Hills (MI) to attend Cranbrook Academy of Art. Seppa taught at Washington University and other prestigious institutions, and is a founding member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths. His work is included in the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, as well as private collections. (Source: Temple University)
