Bainbridge Island Museum of Art presented Frank Renlie: Smile, which featured over twenty-five paintings from regional collectors and the artist’s studio. 

Considering himself a self-taught artist, Frank Renlie’s subject matter is often conceived from his imagination. His buildings and landscapes are painted to imbue a mood or remembrance of feeling of having been somewhere similar. Renlie infuses his works with a humorous or whimsical touch. Painting what is in his head, one cannot help but smile at his creations. 

Renlie began a forty-year career as a freelance illustrator following his graduation from the Burnley School of Professional Art (later known as The Art Institute of Seattle). He was active with the Society of Illustrators in New York, and featured in publications and venues in the United States, France, and Germany. 

Now retired from illustration, Renlie is a full-time painter. His work has been exhibited nationally in Washington, Oregon, California and Pennsylvania, as well as internationally in Mexico, England, and Israel. Regionally, Renlie has been represented by Simon Mace Gallery in Port Townsend and Matzke Fine Art & Design on Camano Island. He has exhibited at the Anacortes Arts Festival, and been featured in auctions at Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner, Schack Art Center in Everett, and Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.
