World Art & Cultures

Registration opens February 7, 2026

AGES 9-11

Globetrot with us in our World Art & Cultures Summer Camp! During this camp, we will “travel” to Ghana, West Africa, New Zealand, Peru, and the Haida, Suquamish, and S’klallam traditional lands in the Pacific Northwest. Young artists will learn about these countries’ cultures through artistic mediums from and inspired by those cultures.

Projects may include: animal masks, beading, woven floral textiles, printmaking patterns, geometric animal designs, Maori waves, and tapestries woven from paper and natural found objects.

World Art & Cultures will be led by David Repyak, a teaching artist who designed positive creative experiences and emphasizes processes over product.

Each day of camp includes a supervised lunch break and recess at the Waterfront Park and Playground.

If you would like to apply for tuition assistance or a scholarship, please do not register for the camp here. Instead, there will be a unique tuition assistance and scholarship application link updated here on February 7, 2026 that you will fill out.

There is no need to provide financial information, though we would like to know more about your student artist and how they may benefit from participating in our BIMA Summer Camp program.

About your instructor

“I believe art has the power to transform thinking. Art lifts the human spirit and helps people express their feelings; art builds confidence, and it encourages understanding of the world around us.” -David Repyak

Northwest artist David Repyak was struck at an early age by the beauty and power of our natural environment. His journey as an artist has included a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Syracuse University, a K-8 teaching certification from the University of Washington, and a Montessori Elementary credential from MEIPN. He has studied with professional artists of the American Watercolor Society, Gage Academy, Plein Air Washington Artists, Poulsbo Artist League, and is a 2-time grant recipient Arts and Humanities Bainbridge. David Repyak is the founder and program director of SHINE Art Academy in the Fort Ward neighborhood of Bainbridge Island. His goal as a teaching artist is to design and execute a positive, educational and creative experience, with more attention placed on process than on product.
