Resonant Bodies, the musical duo of trumpeter Stephanie Richards and percussionist Andrew Drury, performs at BIMA! The performers will be on hand afterward to chat and sign copies of their new CD THAW at a reception with snacks and drinks.
This will be Drury's first time performing on the island since graduating from BHS in 1983. He has subsequently carved a niche in international music circles with over 50 recordings and performances in 27 countries. "This is really meaningful--I'm super excited to play here again, and to re-connect and make new friends," says Drury. Drury was part of the Seattle jazz scene in the mid-90s before settling in New York and beginning to perform internationally. He also has led music residencies at Hyla Middle School, Suquamish Elementary School, Centrum, and was an artist in residence with the Washington State Arts Commission from 1995-'99.
Trumpeter Stephanie Richards grew up in Calgary, Alberta and now splits her time between New York and San Diego. She has worked with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Henry Threadgill and MacArthur "Genius" Anthony Braxton, and many others including David Byrne, Kanye West, The Pixies, the Kronos Quartet, Helmut Lachenmann, Laurie Anderson, Yoko Ono, and Bang On a Can's Asphalt Orchestra. She co-directs the Festival of New Trumpet with Dave Douglas and is also Assistant Professor at UC San Diego.
